On this day in music history…

In 1971, David Bowie released his fourth studio album, Hunky Dory. The album peaked at number 57 in the U.S. Hunky Dory received more attention in Bowie’s native U.K. the following year, after The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars was released. Eventually, Hunky Dory peaked at number 3 on the U.K. chart.

In 1982, The Who played the final concert of their so-called farewell tour at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. It didn’t take long for the band to get back together on stage. Less than three years later, The Who performed at Live Aid, and three years after that, they played a set at the BRIT Awards. Seven years after their first farewell tour, The Who reunited and became an active band again, embarking on another tour.
