On this day in music history…

In 1983, the John Herzfeld film Two of a Kind hit theaters. The movie showcased a reunion of stars John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, who had co-starred in Grease five years earlier. Two of a Kind was a critical and commercial flop. The soundtrack, however, was a success; the album peaked at number 26 on the chart. The soundtrack featured songs by Newton-John and Travolta, Boz Scaggs, Journey, Chicago, and others.

In 1984 , ZZ Top bassist Dusty Hill was shot in the stomach. The gun was his own, and the shooting was an accident. Hill had the Derringer in his boot, and when his girlfriend was pulling off his boots, the gun fell out and discharged. Hill went to Memorial City Hospital in Houston, where doctors stabilized him. According to Houston police, they were initially “unable to talk with Hill about why he was carrying the gun.”
