On this day in music history…

In 1967, Otis Redding and the Bar-Kays were flying to Madison, Wisconsin, when their plane crashed into Lake Monona, just mere miles from their destination. The only survivor was Bar-Kays trumpeter Ben Cauley; Redding, the other four members of the Bar-Kays, and two members of their crew were killed in the crash. Redding was 26 years old.

In 2007, the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert took place at the O2 Arena in London. The show’s headliner was a reunited Led Zeppelin, featuring members Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones, with late drummer John Bonham’s son Jason on drums. Zeppelin played a 16-song set, making it their first full-length performance since 1980.
