On this day in music history…
In 1976, Bob Marley survived an assassination attempt at his home in Kingston, Jamaica. Marley was a couple days away from performing at the Smile Jamaica concert, which was organized to promote peace and oppose political violence. Marley and three others were injured, but there were no fatalities.
In 1978, Bruce Springsteen performed for a crowd of 4,600 people at SIU Arena in Carbondale, Illinois. Accompanied by his E Street Band, Springsteen played for over three hours. An impromptu moment in the show came about when Springsteen wore a cowboy hat given to him by a member of the audience, which led to a performance of “I Fought the Law.”
