On this day in music history…

In 1967, The Monkees dominated the charts in the U.S. “Daydream Believer” hit number 1 on the singles chart, and Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. topped the albums chart. This was The Monkees’ fourth album in a row to go to number 1, and it would be the last.
 

 

In 1983,vthe music video for “Thriller” by Michael Jackson made its debut on MTV. Directed by John Landis, the video’s run-time was 14 minutes. The music video was enormously popular and acclaimed, winning the MTV Video Music Awards for Best Overall Performance in a Video, Best Choreography in a Video, and Viewer’s Choice the following year. In the late ‘90s and the early 2000s, MTV and VH1 each ranked the “Thriller” video as the best music video of all time. Twenty-six years after its release, the Library of Congress selected the video for the National Film Registry.
