Three people were taken into custody Friday in Harrisburg after a stolen vehicle was located and crashed.
Harrisburg Police say officers spotted the reported stolen vehicle around 4:30 Friday afternoon on Locust Street. When police attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle fled and crashed into two unattended vehicles. Authorities say three suspects then ran from the scene.
With help from bystanders, officers took one adult male and two juvenile females into custody. The adult was identified as 33-year-old Jerry Zappa of Harrisburg. He was taken to the George F. Henley Detention Center. The two juveniles were released in accordance with the Illinois Juvenile Court Act.
Police say Zappa faces multiple charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle, driving while license revoked, reckless driving, unlawful restraint, possession of methamphetamine, and several counts of aggravated fleeing and endangering the life of a child.
Harrisburg Police also say Zappa remains under investigation as a suspect in two other vehicle thefts.
