On this day in music history…

In 1975, The SS Edmund Fitzgerald sank off the coast of Ontario in Lake Superior. All 29 men on board perished in the sinking. The tragedy would be immortalized in song by Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot; his Summertime Dream album, which included “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald,” was released seven months after the disaster.

In 1984, Daryl Hall & John Oates performed for a near-capacity crowd at SIU Arena in Carbondale, Illinois. They opened the show with “Out of Touch,” the lead single from their Big Bam Boom album, which had been released the previous month. The album was at number 11 on the chart at the time of the concert.
