On this day in music history…

In 1979, Jethro Tull performed for a crowd of about 7,100 people at SIU Arena in Carbondale, Illinois. Tull was touring in support of their Stormwatch album, which had been released a couple months earlier. The band played numerous songs from the new album in the first half of the show and several classics from their catalog in the second half.

In 2006, U.S. Congresswoman Sue Kelly was voted out of office in New York’s 19th District. Eking out a win on Election Day 2006, with a 2.4% margin of victory, was challenger John Hall of Dover Plains. Hall was already a public figure; in 1972, he had co-founded Orleans, and he’d been singing and playing guitar with the group on and off for nearly 35 years. Hall went on to serve three terms in Congress.
