On this day in music history…

In 1975, Loggins & Messina performed for a crowd of about 3,700 people at SIU Arena in Carbondale, Illinois. The show began with only Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina on stage. After four songs, their band joined them for the remainder of the show. Catfish Hodge was the opening act.

In 1976, “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” by Blue Öyster Cult hit its peak spot on the singles chart at number 12, where it would stay for two weeks. It was Blue Öyster Cult’s first single to land on the chart, and it ended up being their biggest hit.
