Carbondale Police say a late-night fire at a home on West Cherry Street led to an aggravated arson arrest. Officers responded just before 11:20 Tuesday night and found a piece of furniture burning outside the home — with flames starting to spread to the house.

A family, including several young children, was rushed out safely as officers worked quickly to knock down the fire until firefighters arrived.

Police say 30-year-old Jory Brown of Carbondale was taken into custody at the scene and is now in the Jackson County Jail.

No injuries were reported, and the investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Carbondale Police.
