On this day in music history…

In 1978, the Gordon Hessler TV-movie Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park premiered on NBC. Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss starred in the film. The movie’s plot revolves around the band using their superpowers to battle an evil inventor and save a California amusement park from destruction. The movie was panned by critics, and has since achieved cult status.

In 1983, Jackson Browne performed for a crowd of nearly 4,000 people at SIU Arena in Carbondale, Illinois, opening the arena’s concert season. Sporting a black jacket and pink jeans, Browne took the stage a half-hour late with a five-piece band. He played for two hours and wrapped up the show with three encores.
