On this day in music history…
In 1965, The Spencer Davis Group recorded “Keep on Running,” a song written and previously recorded by Jackie Edwards. The band released their rendition of the tune the following month in the U.K., where it became The Spencer Davis Group’s first number 1 hit. The song would go on to be the group’s first charting hit in the U.S., reaching number 76.
In 1977, Meat Loaf released his debut solo album, Bat Out of Hell. Written entirely by Jim Steinman and produced by Todd Rundgren, the album had been flat-out, and sometimes harshly, rejected by record companies for years, until Cleveland International agreed to take on the project. The album rose to number 13 on the chart, and to this day, it remains one of the best-selling albums of all time.
