On this day in music history…

In 1957, Elvis Presley released his third studio album, Elvis’ Christmas Album. It went on to be Presley’s third chart-topping album in a row, and it stayed at number 1 for a month. In 2011, Elvis’ Christmas Album was certified Diamond by the RIAA.

In 1960, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr recorded music together for the first time. The musicians were backing Lu Walters, who was recording his rendition of George Gershwin’s “Summertime” at a studio in Hamburg, Germany. At the time, Starr and Walters were members of Rory Storm & The Hurricanes. A couple years later, Starr would join Lennon, McCartney, and Harrison in The Beatles.
