On this day in music history…

In 1972, James Brown visited the White House and met with President Richard Nixon. Brown also endorsed Nixon in the upcoming presidential election. As a result, former fans of Brown staged a boycott, hurting his concert turnouts and record sales.

In 1995, Peter Frampton released Frampton Comes Alive II, his second live album. It served as a sequel to his first live album, which had been released 19 years earlier to great commercial success. Frampton Comes Alive II did not chart in the U.S., but the accompanying concert film was certified Gold by the RIAA. Frampton wasn’t the only musician to be on Frampton Comes Alive! as well as Frampton Comes Alive II; Bob Mayo was also on both albums, playing keyboards and guitar and contributing vocals.
