On this day in music history…
In 1965, the Saturday morning cartoon The Beatles premiered on ABC. Outside of the use of their music, The Beatles themselves were not involved in the TV series. Paul Frees voiced the John Lennon, George Harrison, and Brian Epstein characters, and Lance Percival voiced the Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr characters. The show was a ratings hit for ABC. It lasted three seasons, during which 39 episodes were produced.
In 2017, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers played the final concert of their 40th Anniversary Tour at the Hollywood Bowl. It turned out to be the band’s final performance. A week later, Petty passed away unexpectedly at the age of 66.
