On this day in music history…

In 1968, The Beach Boys hit number 1 for the second and last time on the U.K. singles chart with “Do It Again.” A standalone single, it stayed in the top spot for one week. In the U.S., “Do It Again” peaked at number 20. The Beach Boys had previously hit number 1 in the U.K. with “Good Vibrations” in 1966. “Good Vibrations” was their second-to-last number 1 hit in the States; in 1988, they returned to the top spot once more with “Kokomo.”

In 2009, brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher got into an altercation backstage at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris. Shortly before Oasis was set to take the stage for their headlining set, it was announced that the band would not be performing. Later that night, Noel announced that he had quit Oasis. The group’s disbandment followed. The Gallagher brothers would reform Oasis 15 years later.
