On this day in music history…

In 1990, Stevie Ray Vaughan was killed in an early-morning helicopter crash shortly after his final performance. Vaughan and Double Trouble had played for a capacity crowd at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin, sharing the bill with Eric Clapton and The Robert Cray Band. Along with Vaughan, four others lost their lives in the crash, three of whom were members of Clapton’s team. Vaughan was 35 years old.

In 1991, Pearl Jam released their debut album, Ten. It took about four months for the album to make its way onto the chart. The album peaked at number 2 a year after its release, by which point it was about to be certified three-times Platinum by the RIAA. Ten ended up spending a total of 265 weeks on the albums chart.
