On this day in music history…
In 1970, Elton John played his first American concert at the Troubadour in Los Angeles. The lead single from John’s self-titled album, “Border Song,” had debuted on the U.S. chart the previous week. About a month after this show, the Elton John album would enter the chart, eventually peaking at number 4. The album’s second single, “Your Song,” would go on to be John’s breakthrough hit.
In 1976, Boston released their self-titled debut album. It peaked at number 3 on the albums chart, and all three of its singles made the Top 40. The album was certified Gold by the RIAA only two months after its release, and a month after that, it was certified Platinum. It remains one of the best-selling debut albums of all time.
