On this day in music history…

In 1965, The Beatles performed at Shea Stadium in New York, kicking off their 1965 North American tour. There were over 55,000 people at the show, setting a concert attendance record at the time. Throughout the show, The Beatles struggled to hear themselves over the deafening noise of the crowd.

In 1991, Paul Simon performed in Central Park on his Born at the Right Time Tour. The concert was broadcast live on HBO, and later released as a live album and concert film. The concert reminded some fans of Simon & Garfunkel’s famous Concert in Central Park 10 years earlier. Despite their hopes, Art Garfunkel did not make an appearance, and he revealed in an interview the day before the show that he had not been invited.
