On this day in music history…

In 1983, Johnny Ramone of The Ramones was injured in an early-morning brawl outside his apartment building. The altercation occurred when Ramone saw an on-and-off girlfriend of his intoxicated with punk rocker Seth Macklin. In the end, Macklin was arrested and faced a first-degree assault charge, and Ramone underwent emergency brain surgery for a fractured skull. Despite the severity of Ramone’s injury, there wasn’t any serious damage to his brain.

In 1987, Guns N’ Roses performed at the Halifax Metro Centre in Nova Scotia, opening for The Cult. This kicked off the first leg of North American shows on GNR’s Appetite for Destruction Tour. The album Appetite for Destruction had been released the previous month.
