In 1964, the Richard Lester film A Hard Day’s Night was released in the U.S., one month after its U.K. release. Starring The Beatles in their first motion picture, the Fab Four played dramatized versions of themselves. The movie received generally positive reviews. The Beatles would work with director Richard Lester again the following year on their second movie, Help!
In 1986, The Monkees were on their 20th Anniversary Tour, and their resurgence in popularity was definitely showing on the albums chart. Their new compilation album, Then and Now: The Best of The Monkees, was charting at number 31. Four of the band’s previous releases had re-entered the albums chart as well: The Monkees was at number 139, More of The Monkees was at number, Headquarters was at number 160, and Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. was at number 177.
