In 1976, Elton John and Kiki Dee topped the U.S. singles chart with the Elton John-Bernie Taupin composition “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,” and it stayed at number 1 for four weeks. John and Dee would return to the U.S. singles chart in 1993 with their rendition of Cole Porter’s “True Love.”
In 1981, the Gerald Potterton film Heavy Metal was released, based on the sci-fi comic magazine of the same name. Notable to music fans was the movie’s soundtrack, which featured songs by Sammy Hagar, Devo, Blue Öyster Cult, Cheap Trick, Don Felder, Donald Fagen, Nazareth, Journey, Grand Funk Railroad, Stevie Nicks, and others. The soundtrack album peaked at number 12 on the albums chart.
