On this day in music history…

In 1988, a year after its release, the debut album from Guns N’ Roses, Appetite for Destruction, peaked at number 1 on the albums chart. The album ended up spending a total of four weeks in the top spot during its 147 weeks on the chart. Appetite for Destruction went on to be one of the best-selling albums of all time in the U.S.

In 1996, Ramones played their final concert at The Palace in Los Angeles. At that time, the band only had two original Ramones: lead singer Joey and guitarist Johnny. The lineup also included Marky on drums and C.J. on bass. There were numerous special guests who joined the group on stage throughout the concert, including members of Motörhead, Rancid, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam, and original Ramones bassist Dee Dee Ramone. The following year, Ramones released the concert as a live album, titled We’re Outta Here!
