On this day in music history…
In 1975, under the guidance of producer Kim Fowley, The Runaways formed in Los Angeles. Within the next few months, the classic lineup of the all-female rock band was solidified, featuring Cherie Currie on lead vocals, Lita Ford on lead guitar, Joan Jett on rhythm guitar and vocals, Jackie Fox on bass, and Sandy West on drums. This lineup of The Runaways would release two albums: The Runaways in 1976 and Queens of Noise in 1977. The Runaways broke up in 1979.
In 2009, Aerosmith was performing in Sturgis, South Dakota on their co-headlining tour with ZZ Top. The sound system malfunctioned during their set, but Steven Tyler was determined to continue entertaining the crowd. He began dancing on the stage and proceeded to accidentally fall off the catwalk. Tyler suffered injuries to his head, neck, and shoulder. Nine days later, Aerosmith canceled the remainder of the tour due to Tyler’s condition.
