On this day in music history…
In 1981, MTV launched at 12:01 am Eastern Time. The music video for “Video Killed the Radio Star” by Buggles was the first video to air on the network. It was followed by Pat Benatar’s “You Better Run” and Rod Stewart’s “She Won’t Dance with Me.”
In 1990, the Geoff Murphy film Young Guns II was released in theaters. The movie provided Jon Bon Jovi with his acting debut in a brief, uncredited, non-speaking role. More notably, Bon Jovi wrote “Blaze of Glory” for the film. The song went on to spend one week at the top of the singles chart, and it won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song in 1991.
