On this day in music history…

In 1978, Grease: The Original Soundtrack from the Motion Picture topped the albums chart. It went on to spend seven weeks at number 1 in the U.S. The album was also successful overseas, topping the charts in more than 10 other countries. The album’s first four singles were all big hits internationally. In the U.S., “Grease” and “You’re the One That I Want” went to number 1, “Hopelessly Devoted to You” went to number 3, and “Summer Nights” went to number 5.

In 2015, The Eagles performed at CenturyLink Center in Bossier City, Louisiana on their History of the Eagles Tour. It turned out to be their final public performance with founding member Glenn Frey, who passed away six months later due to complications from pneumonia, acute ulcerative colitis, and rheumatoid arthritis. The band eventually hit the road again in 2017, despite Don Henley’s initial doubts after Frey’s death. Vince Gill and Frey’s son Deacon were new additions to the lineup.
