On this day in music history…

In 1982, the Colin Higgins film The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas hit theaters. The movie featured Dolly Parton in her second starring role on the big screen, and starring alongside her was Burt Reynolds. It made $69.7 million at the box office and received mixed reviews from critics.

In 1989, Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band opened their first tour at the Park Central Amphitheatre in Dallas. This marked the first U.S. tour by a Beatle since Paul McCartney & Wings were on the American leg of their Wings Over the World Tour 13 years earlier. This was also Starr’s first tour since his time in The Beatles. The cleverly named All-Starr Band did indeed boast an all-star lineup of talent. Joining Starr on the tour were Dr. John and Billy Preston on keyboards; Rick Danko on bass; Joe Walsh and Nils Lofgren on guitars; Levon Helm on percussion; Jim Keltner on drums; and Clarence Clemons on saxophone. The tour consisted of 37 shows over 3½ months.
