On this day in music history…

In 1968, Mike Bloomfield, Al Kooper, and Stephen Stills released their Super Session album. The three musicians were already known for their work in multiple notable groups. Kooper had been a member of Blood, Sweat & Tears; Bloomfield had been in The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, and then he was a founding member of The Electric Flag; and Stills had been a member of Buffalo Springfield. Kooper played on the entire album, with Bloomfield playing guitar on Side 1 and Stills doing so on Side 2. Super Session peaked at No. 12 on the albums chart.

In 1971, John Lennon filmed the music video for “Imagine” at Tittenhurst Park, his estate in Berkshire, England. The video was part of a feature-length film project Lennon was making. The movie included all of the songs from his Imagine album. It was released the following year.
