On this day in music history…

In 1996, Styx drummer John Panozzo passed away. Panozzo suffered a gastrointestinal hemorrhage in addition to having cirrhosis of the liver after years of heavy drinking. It was in 1961 that he first joined forces with his fraternal twin brother Chuck and neighbor Dennis DeYoung, and 11 years later, the three of them would be founding members of Styx. Panozzo played on the band’s first 12 studio albums. He was just 47 years old when he passed.

In 2007, The White Stripes played what may be the shortest live set of all time. At a free pop-up show in the afternoon, they played one note on an outdoor stage in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. After they finished their extremely short set, frontman Jack White announced, “We have now officially played in every province and territory in Canada.” (You can see the “show” below) The duo played a full-length concert that night in St. John’s to wrap up their Canadian tour.
