In 1972, Elton John went to number 1 on the U.S. albums chart for the first time with Honky Château, which had been released a couple months earlier. John’s three previous albums had also done well in the States, all peaking in the top 10. Honky Château began a streak for John in the U.S.; his next five studio albums all topped the U.S. chart. In his native U.K., Honky Château peaked at number 2. John’s first chart-topping album in the U.K. would come the following year with Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only the Piano Player.

In 2007, the reality TV show Rock of Love with Bret Michaels premiered on VH1. The season consisted of 13 episodes, featuring 25 women competing to be Michaels’ partner. Seven of the contestants were from Illinois, including eventual winner Jes Rickleff. In the finale, Rickleff revealed that she wasn’t interested in a relationship with Michaels, opening the door for a second season of the show. Ultimately, Rock of Love with Bret Michaels ran for three seasons.
