On this day in music history…

In 1971, Doors frontman Jim Morrison was found dead in the bathtub of the apartment he was sharing with his girlfriend in Paris. The exact cause of death remains unknown since no autopsy was performed. He was 27 years old. The Doors considered replacing Morrison, but ultimately decided not to do so. Their next two albums, Other Voices and Full Circle, featured Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger splitting lead vocal duties.

In 1976, The Beach Boys, America, and Santana celebrated the bicentennial year of the United States with a concert at Anaheim Stadium. This show marked Brian Wilson’s return to the stage; he hadn’t performed with The Beach Boys in over a decade.
