On this day in music history…
In 1986, the film Under the Cherry Moon hit theaters. Prince directed and starred in the movie. Under the Cherry Moon made $10.1 million at the box office, and it received negative reviews from critics. On the other hand, the soundtrack album by Prince & The Revolution, which had been released under the title Parade, was lauded by critics, and it peaked at number 3 on the chart.
In 1991, Guns N’ Roses played at the Riverport Amphitheatre in St. Louis on their Use Your Illusion Tour. During the 15th song, Axl Rose noticed one concertgoer using a camera to take photos of the show. At first, Rose demanded that security apprehend the fan, but seconds later, he took matters into his own hands, leaping into the crowd and exchanging blows with some audience members. Security eventually got Rose back to the stage, where he announced that he was leaving. The rest of the band followed Rose off stage and a riot ensued, resulting in over 60 injuries and hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage. Guns N’ Roses wouldn’t perform in St. Louis again for 26 years.
