On this day in music history…

In 1984, the third album by Huey Lewis & The News, titled Sports, hit number 1 on the albums chart, making it the group’s first chart-topping album. It held the top spot for one week. Only four other albums went to number 1 in 1984: Michael Jackson’s Thriller (for 15 weeks), the Footloose soundtrack (for 10 weeks), Bruce Springsteen’s Born in the U.S.A. (for four weeks), and Prince & The Revolution’s Purple Rain (for 22 weeks).

In 2012, Queen + Adam Lambert kicked off their first tour in Kiev, Ukraine. The Ukraine show was a joint concert with Elton John to raise money for the Elena Pinchuk ANTIAIDS Foundation. The tour only consisted of six dates, the final three of which were sold-out concerts at the Hammersmith Apollo in London.
