On this day in music history…
In 1970, Queen played their first gig at Truro City Hall in Cornwall, England. The band’s lineup consisted of Freddie Mercury on lead vocals, Brian May on guitar, Mike Grose on bass, and Roger Taylor on drums. Grose went on to play two more shows with Queen before parting ways with the group.
In 1989, The B-52’s released their fifth studio album, titled Cosmic Thing. This was the first album that the group recorded without founding member Ricky Wilson, who had died of AIDS in 1985. Cosmic Thing ended up being their most successful album on the chart, peaking at number 4. They also scored three Top 40 singles: “Love Shack” (which peaked at number 3), “Roam” (which also peaked at number 3), and “Deadbeat Club” (which peaked at number 30). The B-52’s followed up the album with the Cosmic Tour, their first tour without Ricky Wilson.
