The Meridian Bobcats didn’t take long to find the man to lead their boys’ basketball coach next.  Malcolm Larry is the next man up.

Larry, who has served as an assistant on David Davis’ staff the past four seasons, gets his first varsity boys’ basketball head coaching job and it’s for his alma mater.  Larry is a 2008 graduate of Meridian.

The elementary school teacher in the Meridian school district has been instrumental in Meridian’s success the past four seasons.  Before joining Davis’ staff, he was the head coach of the 7th grade team for over three years which allowed him to get to know several of the future stars of the program.

Meridian went 100-43 the past four seasons under former head coach David Davis.  That included a trip to the state finals and a 2nd place finish in 2024.  The program has picked up three regional titles, three sectional titles, and a Super-Sectional title in that time frame as well.  The Bobcats have become a perennial powerhouse in that short time frame.

“I know I’m going to do the best I can to live up to those expectations,” Larry said.  “I’m nervous but excited.  It’s a good nervous, not a bad nervous.”

The Bobcats have a tough 2025-26 schedule already being shaped.  They’ll test themselves against some of the top competition in the area with both Marion and Centralia… as well as reunite with former head coach David Davis when they play Paducah Tilghman.
