On this day in music history…
In 1973, “Frankenstein” by The Edgar Winter Group was certified Gold by the RIAA. The single had been released about four months prior, and it spent 20 weeks on the chart, with one week in the top spot. This instrumental tune featured the guitar work of Ronnie Montrose, who would release the album Montrose with the band of the same name later that year.
In 1987, Mötley Crüe kicked off their Girls, Girls, Girls Tour at the Tucson Community Center in Tucson, Arizona. Their Girls, Girls, Girls album had been released about a month earlier. The album would go on to peak at number 2 on the chart, and the single of the same name would peak at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. Girls, Girls, Girls was the last Mötley Crüe album produced by Tom Werman, who had also produced Shout at the Devil and Theatre of Pain.
