On this day in music history…

In 1977, Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz got married. They had met in 1971 as students at the Rhode Island School of Design, and they began dating a year later. At school, Frantz had also befriended fellow student David Byrne, with whom he formed a band called The Artistics. Eventually, Byrne, Frantz, and Weymouth would move to New York City, where they would form Talking Heads; Weymouth played bass and Frantz played drums. In the early ‘80s, the husband-and-wife duo would form another band called Tom Tom Club.

In 1977, Fleetwood Mac topped the U.S. singles chart with “Dreams,” the second single from their Rumours album. It was the only time Fleetwood Mac got up to number 1 in the States. “Dreams” peaked at number 24 in the U.K. Fleetwood Mac only had one number 1 single in the U.K. as well; nine years earlier, their standalone single “Albatross” had topped the chart.
