On this day in music history…
In 1970, The Beatles started a two-week run at number 1 with “The Long and Winding Road” from their Let It Be album. It was the band’s 20th number one single in the U.S., and it would be their last song to top the singles chart.
In 1980, the Alan Rudolph film Roadie hit theaters. The movie featured Meat Loaf in his first starring role, and there was no shortage of cameos by well-known musicians. Roy Orbison, Alice Cooper, and Hank Williams Jr., as well as the members of Blondie and Asleep at the Wheel, were all featured in cameo roles. The film received poor reviews from critics, and it made 4.2 million dollars at the box office. The following year, Meat Loaf would reunite with Jim Steinman to record his Dead Ringer album. Meat Loaf’s next film role would be in the Allan Nicholls film Dead Ringer, in which he played two roles: Meat Loaf, the rock star, and Marvin, the rock star lookalike. The movie was never officially released.
