On this day in music history…
In 1964, The Rolling Stones played their first American concert at the Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino, California. They would perform 12 more shows over the following 15 days to complete their first American tour, supporting their self-titled debut album. It was also during that span of days that the Stones recorded material for their next album at Chess Studios in Chicago.
In 1975, the members of Pink Floyd were at Abbey Road Studios, working on what would be their Wish You Were Here album, when they had a strange visitor stop by unannounced. None of the band members recognized him at first; he was overweight and had shaved off his hair and his eyebrows. Eventually, they realized it was their reclusive former bandmate Syd Barrett, who was one of Pink Floyd’s founding members 10 years earlier.
