Herman’s Music Minute for May 30th

On this day in music history…

In 1990, Midnight Oil performed an impromptu lunchtime set outside the Exxon building in New York, protesting the company’s handling of the Exxon Valdez oil spill that had occurred the previous year. On display behind the band was a large banner reading “Midnight Oil makes you dance, Exxon oil makes us sick.”

In 2018,
Styx played a concert at the Five Point Amphitheatre in Irvine, California on their summer tour with Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and Tesla. The first song of Styx’s encore was “Mr. Roboto,” marking the band’s first complete performance of the hit tune in over 30 years. It was also the first full-band performance of “Mr. Roboto” in concert, as former Styx frontman Dennis DeYoung had sung the song to a track on the Kilroy Was Here Tour.
