Williamson County man facing felony charges after break-in, assault

MARION, Ill. (WJPF) – A Williamson County man is facing multiple felony charges after breaking into a home and attacking a man with a knife.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says Carl Stokes, 40, broke into a home on Revere Road around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. When the homeowner confronted Stokes, police say Stokes threatened the homeowner with a knife and ran off.

About 5 hours later, police say Carl Stokes was found in the yard of nearby home. This time when confronted by the homeowner, police say Carl Stokes, still armed with a knife, attacked the homeowner, who police say successfully defended himself.  Carl Stokes was taken to a hospital, the homeowner declined medical treatment by paramedics at the scene.

After being seen by a doctor, Carl Stokes was taken to the Williamson County Jail on charges of home invasion with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
