WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Dain Richie and Edouard Cereto both finished under par, but Southern Illinois lost ground on day two of the NCAA Regionals in West Lafayette, Ind.
Richie’s score of 69 (-3) tied for sixth on the day and is tied for 10th overall, and is the lowest round of any Saluki so far. Cereto is tied for 13th after shooting 71 (-1)
“Dain played a great round today to put him in a great spot on the individual leaderboard; Edouard is right there as well,” Head Coach Justin Fetcho said. “Both have a great opportunity in front of them tomorrow.”
Here is where the other Salukis sit after two rounds:
- Leon Heitz, T53, (75 | 75, +6)
- Hugo Archer, 66, (79 | 76 +11)
- Andrew Thornton/Oliver Ulrich, T73 (83, +11) | (74, +2)
Fetcho believes the team’s resilience will be tested, and the players must shoot cleanly to make a run at the top.
“We want to put together one of the best rounds of the day tomorrow,” he said. “We have the ability to do it but we just have to minimize the silly mistakes.”
The Salukis’ team score of 587 is 13 strokes behind fifth-place Florida, the mark they must hit to advance to the national championships.
