Search Warrant leads to the Arrest of a man from Mt. Vernon

MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (WJPF) – A search warrant has led to the arrest of a man from Mt. Vernon.

On Thursday January 11, officers with the Mt. Vernon Police and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department served a knock and announce search warrant at a residence in Mt. Vernon. 

During a search of the residence detectives found crack cocaine, a firearm and ammunition.

The resident, 28 year old Dequan Hopkins, was charged with Armed Habitual Offender, Possession of a Firearm by a Person on Parole and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

At the time of the arrest, Hopkins was on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections following a 2015 conviction for Second Degree Murder in Cook County. 

Hopkins was taken to the Jefferson County Justice Center.
