Murphysboro’s Cook breaks sister’s record for most home runs in a season

Monday, Murphysboro Red Devils star Sarah Cook blasted the softball past the fences for the 12th time this season.  That broke a tie with her sister, Shelby, for the most home runs in a season by a Red Devil.

Shelby Cook hit 11 home runs in her senior season in 2022.

The junior shortstop’s 12th home run led the Softball Red Devils to a dominant 22-2 win over Chester in four innings Monday night.

Through 24 games, Cook, a SIU-Carbondale commit, is hitting .640 with 12 home runs, 15 doubles, two triples, and 53 runs batted in.  She 18 career home runs and a career-record 126 RBIs.

The Red Devils are 14-10 this season and on a four game win streak; they are 9-1 in the SIRR Ohio Division.
