PADUCAH, Ky. (WJPF) – A Florida man has been arrested after a fatal shooting at a Paducah hotel.

Police say at about 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Robert Pannell, 55, shot the female Best Western employee multiple times in the head and chest. She died at a local hospital. Pannell also indiscriminately fired several more shots, but no other injuries were reported.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office says shortly before the shooting, Pannell got into an argument with a couple in the hotel parking lot. The pair apparently refused to let the Palm Coast man borrow a cigarette lighter. Police say it’s still not clear though what motivated Pannell to enter the building and shoot the hotel worker.

Robert Pannell has been charged with a number of crimes, including first degree murder.
