Small towns receiving COVID-19 relief money

SPRINGFIELD, Ill (WJPF) – Dozens of towns throughout southern Illinois are receiving COVID-19 relief funds.

The money is going out to what is called Non-Entitlement Units, or NEUS, which are cities, towns and villages that did not receive any direct aid from the federal government.

The money must be used to cover expenses related to the pandemic. The amount of funds awarded locally ranges anywhere from $8,573, which is going to the small Saline County community of Muddy, to over $2 million which was awarded to Mt. Vernon.
