Two Marion residents arrested in Carbondale on weapons charges

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – Two Marion residents were arrested Friday in Carbondale on weapons charges.

Just after 2:00 a.m., Carbondale Police say their officers were in the 100 block of North Washington Street, near the Town Square Pavilion, keeping an eye on a large crowd that had gathered in the area, when an argument involving a handgun began between members of the crowd.

The person with the gun got into a vehicle and began to leave the area when they were stopped by police.

Arrested were Chad Smith, 32, and Bryonne Williams, 26,. Smith faces charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a weapon by a felon, and forgery after officers found counterfeit cash in his possession. Smith was charged with unlawful delivery of a firearm to a felon.
