“Snake Road” closes early for spring migration

WOLF LAKE, Ill. (WJPF) – Unseasonably warm weather has closed Snake Road early this year.

The road, officially known as Forest Service Road #345, in Shawnee National Forest, will be closed to vehicle traffic until until May 15 to allow for the safe migration of snakes, reptiles, and amphibians.

Pedestrians are allowed during this time, but are reminded that handling or trapping the migrating creatures is against the law.
