Former Massac County official pleads guilty to mail, wire fraud

MASSAC COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) — A former Massac County official has pleaded guilty to mail and wire fraud.

Christopher Thompson, 30, was the assistant director of the Massac County EMA and also served as the IT Manager for the Massac County Board of Commissioners.

Prosecutors say Thompson used over $50,000 in county money for personal expenses. Thompson will have to forfeit the items purchased with the stolen money.

He’s scheduled to be sentenced in February.
