Bareis expected to be appointed interim Sesser Police Chief

SESSER, Ill. (WJPF) — The City of Sesser will likely get a new interim police chief Tuesday night.

It’s expected that current Perry County Sheriff Steve Bareis will be appointed to the role. The interim job will be a part-time one, with Bareis also staying on as the full time sheriff in Perry County.

Current Sesser Police Chief Ryan White is stepping down. White is also being sued by former Sesser Mayor Ned Mitchell who claims White and another officer made false statements that led to Mitchell’s arrest in 2019 on drug charges.
